If you can’t live longer, live deeper

Italian proverb

The Travel x Longevity Relationship

Wellness is no longer a one-dimensional concept, focussing on diet and exercise alone. It involves us embracing a more holistic approach to our health and wellbeing, and travel is uniquely placed to curate your own personal haven of escapism. Never in the same way before has a travel trend actually had the power to save your life.

Whether a getaway allows you to simply sleep well, affords you much-needed family time in the great outdoors, the chance to attend a mindfulness or yoga retreat, or to connect with others on an adventure fitness trip for men, or a menopause and meditation trip for women, wellbeing travel is ultimately subjective and is what you make of it – a way to rest, revive and heal in your own way.

Travel is scientifically proven to benefit our health and wellbeing in multiple ways, from enhanced mental clarity and mood boosting, to improved immunity, physical performance, and reduced stress and inflammation.

A great article in the Harvard Business Review explains more about how much travel can improve improves health and wellbeing. Read more about how travel benefits your mental health especially.

The Power of Feeling Awe

We can feel awe everyday if we know how, and cultivating a life less awe-dinary not only adds years to your life, but more importantly, life to your years.

Scientific research shows that experiencing awe—a profound sense of wonder in response to vast or inspiring stimuli—has measurable benefits for health and wellbeing. Studies in psychology and neuroscience demonstrate that awe reduces stress by lowering cortisol levels, supports cardiovascular health by calming the nervous system, and boosts mood through increased release of feel-good neurochemicals.

Awe also promotes prosocial behaviour, enhances life satisfaction, and even strengthens the immune system by reducing inflammation. By shifting attention away from the self and fostering a sense of connection to something larger, awe acts as a powerful emotional reset with both mental and physical health benefits.

And, Exhale…

I am a certified functional breathing coach, trained in the Oxygen Advantage method - a personalised approach that is underpinned by rigorous scientific evidence.

Breathing exercises aren’t a new fad. They originate with yoga practices, which are at least 2,500 years old. Improved breathing is a proven technique for enhancing health, wellbeing and optimising your mental and physical performance. Harnessing this superpower, taken for granted and overlooked by most, can change the quality of your life, by improving sleep, emotional regulation, stress management and calming the nervous system, fear and anxiety, digestion, mental clarity, blood pressure normalisation, physical performance, athletic endurance and a whole lot more.

I currently work with humanitarians and aid agencies on personal and team resilience strategies. I help teams prepare before humanitarian deployment, offer actionable coping methods when they are away, and help them assimilate back into everyday life on their return home.

I will be bringing my breathing coaching to my travel community very soon, and starting a limited number of breathing retreats for individuals and groups. Register your interest here.
